The full recipe should serve 6 - 8 people, the half serves 4 - 6. I know the half seems like very little sauce, but at least in our family we always have too much.

Also used in our lasagna (Flight 2021).

Ingredients - Full

  • 2 x 20oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 2/3 cup White sugar
  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp minced onion
  • 3 Tbsp basil leaves
  • 2 Tbsp oregano flakes
  • 2 tsp rosemary
  • 2 tsp thyme
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 2 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste

Ingredients - Halved

  • 20 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp minced onion
  • 1 Tbsp basil leaves
  • 1 Tbsp oregano flakes
  • 1 tsp rosemary
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 bay leaf

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large pot, bring to a gentle simmer, reduce heat and allow to simmer for 2 hours.

Alternatively, drop 1 Tbsp of vegetable oil in pot, and over medium-high heat cook onion and garlic for 2 - 3 minutes until fragrant and browned. Combine rest of ingredients as above.

If desired, 1lb of browned ground beef can be added before serving over noodles or using in other pasta recipes.

Nutritional Info

780 kcal (full) or 390 kcal (half), over 16 or 8 servings, is 50 kcal / serving.

With 80/20 ground beef added, (1 or 0.5 lb), you add another 70 kcal / serving.
