Sugar Cookies

Wonderful cookies for decorating and dressing up at any time of year.

Ingredients

• 1 cup butter
• 1 1/2 cups sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 3 1/2 cups sifted white flour
• 2 tsp cream of tartar
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt

Directions

• Cream 1 cup butter.
• Add 1 1/2 cups sugar gradually, beating until light and fluffy.
• Add 3 eggs, 1 egg at a time, beating after each is added.
• Stir in 1 tsp vanilla.
• Sift dry ingredients together:
  • 3 1/2 cups white flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
• Add gradually to the creamed mixture.
• Chill thoroughly (4 hours, or overnight).
• On a well floured surface, roll dough out until it is 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch thick.
• Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
• Bake at 350F on ungreased baking sheets for 6 - 8 minutes.
• Allow to cool slightly before removing to racks.
